Horsetooth Reservoir is 68 miles north of Denver via I-25 and worth every minute of the drive. If you do not like highway driving you can take Wadsworth Blvd 80% of the way passing through several historic cities along the way, I seem to fancy Longmont but I also like Berthed. Another favorite lake we often visit is Carter, it has now become a second favorite compared to Horsetooth.
It has been awhile since I have posted a blog and I have decided to get a little more active with my camera this summer. I originally designed the Periodical Note website as a community blog for creative individuals that do not want to run their own website and may post as they please. Anyone can post blogs to this site within simple guidelines. Hit me up I’ll give you more information.
Periodical note will be bare for a little bit as I fill it with organic content this summer. Moving forward you will get to see the website fill out with some of my creative ventures and photos.
2020 was a difficult year for everyone, everywhere and has made me count my blessings in many ways. It’s has sparked an old creative passion for blogging and photography.
Today is June 7th 2021, my lady and I are driving back from a one night camping trip at Horsetooth Reservoir. Yes a Sunday into a Monday is perfect for a one night escape from the big city grind. We usually camp the weekend before and after a major holiday in the summer avoiding the busy weekends with crowds of people flocking to camp spots all over Colorado. We have a state park pass this season with plans of visiting as many parks as we can within a few hours drive from our residence. Remember, if you want to yuppie camp in Colorado you have to book your spot 6 months in advanced.
We set up camp at inlet bay with spots right on the edge of the water which makes loading paddle boards on the lake a breeze. It’s not my first time at Horsetooth but it has been awhile since I have visited here. Camp grounds are spacious, bathrooms are very clean and there is a general store within walking distance open 7am to 8pm. We had a RV spot with 110/240 power run direct to camp and there is fresh water outlets strategically placed around the camping area. Some of the camp spots have big wooden awnings with benches for larger gatherings.
It’s really nice camping this early in the season when water levels are high, bug counts are low and after all the rain that we have received in the last month, not a fire ban in sight.
The lake was overall clear, refreshing and because of the last rainfalls the scenic view was amazing. Deep green colors in trees and brush accenting the clay red on the mountain tops. Inlet bay is quite calm with very flat, peaceful water making it a perfect place for a great day of paddle boarding.
Overall I was happy spending a few days at Horsetooth with very few disappointments minus my cell service sucked. My lady had 3 bars the entire time and I had no bars, she has cricket and I have T-Mobile, how does that work?
